1. Being on Social Media without Aims and Objectives. Always have a plan for your social media presence and how to accomplish it. Know the reason why you are here. If you are for business. Focus on your growth. But if you are here to catch a cruise. You know your stand.
2. Posting Unrelated Content to Your Brands or Business on a Single Platform. It confuses your audience. Create different platforms or pages for different businesses.
3. Inconsistency in Creating Content to post on social media. Be consistent with your message. You are here to make an impact. Have a timetable or content calendar for your post. It will make your work easier.
4. Avoid using childish and abusive language or shortened words in your posts e.g. luv - love, laf - laugh, 2 - to, and more. People won’t take you seriously. Maintain a very simple language that everyone engages with and understands.
5. Be on all social media platforms at the same time. Instead, Stick to one or two that best suit your message.
6. Avoid using blur pictures or images. Don't use images, if you can't get sharp and clearer ones. This is either on your profile picture or on your posts
7. Stop being Salezy with your Content all the time. This can’t be over-emphasis, avoid selling all the time, it puts the audience off. People are on social media here to have fun. Most times, just educate, inspire, and entertain your audience with your posts. Your Content should focus 80% on inspiring and educative and 20% on Selling.
8. Post Content without Properly Proofreading. How many times do you read something on the internet and wonder if the Content was ever proofread or edited? Don’t rely on editing software, use your own two eyes. Your errors are the first thing people see and whether you like it or not, it will affect the way you are perceived.
9. Neglecting the social part of social media. Engage your audience promptly, especially if it’s a customer complaint. Social engagement is one of the most important aspects of Digital Marketing. Try to be light and sprinkle in some humor. Your customers will love you for it.
10. Over-sharing content within short periods. Your followers do not need to hear from you every couple of hours. Be consistent in whatever time frame you are working with. As a guideline consider posting once or twice daily (or more as the need presents itself.
